5 signs you’d make a great egg donor

You may know someone who has donated their eggs before, or maybe you’re interested in donating yourself. Either way, it’s probably crossed your mind at some point – “Would I be a good egg donor?”

Here are the top five signs you could potentially be a great egg donor.

#5 Good physical health.

Being in good physical health is a must for being an egg donor. As an egg donor, it is important to be a healthy weight and not to smoke or use any tobacco products. Research has shown that obesity and smoking both have profound effects on the reproductive system, and can affect even unfertilized eggs.

#4 Positive mental health.

While no one is perfect, a good egg donor should be psychologically healthy. In addition, an egg donor must not have a family history of severe mental conditions.

#3 A little extra money wouldn’t hurt.

While the egg donation process is relatively a short period of time (the treatment typically takes 12 to 14 days), you’ll be compensated for your time and effort. For most individuals, there are a number of ways in which that money could be used, including education or other expenses, travel, or simply to save.

#2 You have a flexible schedule.

You definitely won’t be on-call twenty-four-seven, but you may need to adjust your daily routine to fit in a few visits to the clinic. Most appointments are in the early morning between 6AM and 8AM, so allow you to carry on with your normal routine during treatment. On the day of the egg retrieval, you will need a day off from work or school – we will be happy to provide any letter to support this. Most women are back to work the very next day.

#1 You like to help others.

The ideal egg donor takes great joy in helping others build their family. Donating eggs is a deeply personal gesture – an egg donor has a truly giving spirit. Egg donors are dedicated and have a real selfless personality.
