Amanda, donor

When I was pregnant with my son, I was talking with my husband and said, ‘I don’t want to have more kids for our family, but I’m still young enough to have kids, and I don’t want to waste my fertility – I want to help others.’ He told me he had a friend who had done egg donation in the past, and I started researching it right away. I knew I was young, healthy and fertile, and I really liked the idea of being able to help people – I just really didn’t want to not use what I had.

I’m about to start my sixth and last cycle, and it makes me kind of sad, honestly. I love the idea of helping others start their family, and it doesn’t hurt financially, either. I genuinely feel really good after I finish. The nurse will tell me how many eggs they got, and I feel so good knowing some family will have that many chances to get pregnant. These soon-to-be families are counting on me, and it feels good!

As a result of the experience, I am going back to school to be an ultrasound technician in an OBGYN office. I’ve always loved kids, but I didn’t know how I’d incorporate that into my career – now I know. My future is going to be better because of Ovatures, and I can keep helping people have families!

I know how I feel about being a mom, and I can’t imagine another woman or man not being able to experience the same joy. And knowing you can give it to them – why not do it?
